Consept The "Inner Self" project was devised to access ones conscience reckoning as a function of mental state, physical state and seasonal environment. This was a collaborative work conceived by Wayne Crothers, performed by Seth Yarden and assisted by young artists at Musashino Art University, Tokyo. Initially participants conceived images based on 30 themes of physical and mental reckoning and then participated in an exhibition performance using these artworks to cumulate in an installation representing a three dimensional anatomical and emotional space. November 29, 2002. Participants randomly select a board titled with a theme referring to a body part and an associated emotion, feeling or sensation. Participants then draw freely onto large sheets of veneer wood (180 x 90 cm) in a personal, representational or abstract manner depicting the emotion associated with the body part that they have selected. Participants then use electric tools (drills, grinders, trimmers, chisels) and conventional hand held chisels to cut, scratch, carve and etch into the surface of the wood. This mark making and image building process is an out working of the emotional and physical experience that the theme has inspired with in the participants. |
